I was privileged to attend a wedding ceremony at Koforidua with my family. It was a joyous day for me. The program was to commence at 9.00 am, so we woke up very early and set off at 6.30 am. We passed by the Ayi Mensah road, I saw the Aburi mountain. It was surrounded by tall and short tress and the green environment showed how beautiful and serene nature is. Not only did I see the mountain but I also observed the road had a narrow path for the pedestrians and this narrow path, I was told is used people for their morning exercise. to my surprise, I saw a lot of people both young and old jogging up the road to the Aburi triangle.
When we drove further, i saw a magnificent white building with black gates. The outside of the building had beautiful well kept lawns with flowers in the middle. I then looked through the gates and i saw how the compound had been kept clean and the various flowers gave total beauty to the building. I asked my mom the name of the place and she told me it was the Peduase Lodge built by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
I thought, Accra was the only attractive place people could go to but i was wrong. On the contrary, Koforidua is more an attractive place to go than Accra. The gigantic beautiful buildings, well kept surroundings and the tarred roads make the town very nice-looking .
Eventually, we arrived at our destination; The Presbyterian Church where the ceremony was held. We got there before the start of the program, so we had our break-fast before the other guests started coming in.
The program started at 10:00am instead of 9:00am. The church service begun with a song ministration for a while, then the groom arrived accompanied by the best man. Soon, the Bride arrived, she was accompanied by a page boy who was in front of her with an inscription around his neck “My Auntie is taken away”. Her Father, held her left hand and bride’s maid followed here. She looked very charming in her gown with smiles on her face exposing both her inner and outer beauty.
When both were seated, the pastor called them to the alter to exchange their vows before the sermon. After exchanging their vows and rings, the pastor pronounced them Husband and Wife, after which he asked them to kiss.
Soon afterwards, the service was over and it was time for taking pictures. From the church premises, we went for the reception which was held at the nursing training center not far from the church. The reception grounds was well arranged, very simple and beautiful. The gift table was at the left side while the buffet table was at the right side.
The M.C cracked jokes and also the DJ played songs while we waited patiently for the couple. Before they arrived, we had taken our snacks and drinks. We had wanted to wait and enjoy ourselves more but time did not permit us, so we left shortly the couple arrived. Before that we had presented their gifts. We got home eventually and had to prepare and rest for the next day.
Even-though, the wedding was simple, it was beautiful and thrilling to the other extravagant weddings i had attended.
